Book review - Shakeout! by Edward Ludbrook

November 5th, 2007

Here’s a great book review submitted by one of our team:

As you may know, Edward Ludbrook is a leading authority in the world of Network Marketing.  We are told by our sponsors and upline that his book Shakeout! is essential reading for those wanting to progress within this industry and I would certainly agree with this, having recently finished the book.

Part 1 explains the fundamentals of Network Marketing and how you can make money within this industry quicker than in other industries.  It also explains the basic principle business strategy with regard to being in the right place, at the right time, with the right business model.  We have all heard of being in the ‘right place at the right time’, but choosing a company that also has the right business model highlights how finding the right company within the industry is also important.

The next few chapters are dedicated to explaining the Primary Trends of: ‘lifestyle’ and what people are looking for in life generally, i.e. ultimately the pursuit of happiness;  the ‘Job Paradigm’ and how in this changing world we should instead be looking towards developing an ‘Income Paradigm’ as in self-employment;  the Direct Shopping Revolution, including the history of this alternative way of shopping and the Consumer Experience, explaining what we, as consumers, are now looking for in the retail sector.  These trends are all catered for by Network Marketing and our industry echoes the ‘right place, right time and right business strategy’ idea.

The book then goes on to explain more about these trends, Network Marketing’s link to franchising and how the industry is now moving into the Shakeout stage.  Ludbrook states that, although the industry has been around for some 30 years, in this country, and has been going through the growth stage, we are not yet at the mature stage and there is still at least a decade or two before the industry reaches anywhere near maturity.  There is, therefore, still a lot of money to be made by us, the Distributors and Leaders.  We read about Ludbrook’s future predictions for the industry, what Pyramid Selling really is, the Saturation Myth and our challenge for the future in growing our incomes.

Shakeout! is filled with quotes from business analysts, using facts, figures and stories of various companies and businesses as back up for Ludbrook’s insights into business generally and how these relate to Network Marketing.  It certainly helps to confirm that we are working within an industry of the future and when you consider the alternatives and where you have been, you don’t want to go back.

I am definitely going to be reading some more of Edward Ludbrook’s books.

Christmas Debt, and the Kleeneze solution

November 4th, 2007

I read some interesting figures today.  According to a recent poll, 45% of the UK population will struggle to stick to a budget and avoid debt this christmas.  Here’s a quick little quiz to see how shopping-savvy you are, and how likely you are to overspend! (Answers below)

  1. We spend on average £863 per household but how much of that is spent on presents?
    a) £256
    b) £378
    c) £620
  2. How much more does the average family spend in December that in any other month of the year?
    a) 25%
    b) 50%
    c) 100%
  3. How much did consumers in the UK spend on Christmas presents online last year?
    a) £95 million
    b) £3.2 billion
    c) £7.5 billion
  4. On average, how long do UK consumers take to pay off their Christmas debts?
    a) Six weeks
    b) Three months
    c) Six months

Answers

1. (b) £378 - plus £163 on food and drink, £53 on paper and cards, £64 on a tree and decorations, £84 on travel and £121 on socialising

2. (c) The average family spends 100% more in December than in any other month.

3. (c) £7.5 billion (£7,500,000,000) was spent on Christmas presents online last year in the UK!

4. (b) It takes the average family 3 months to pay off their Christmas debts.  That’s one quarter of the year paying off debts for a single celebration, only to start preparing for the next one 6 months down the line!

These figures came from a woman’s magazine that Cressy was reading and their solution to the problem was to budget carefully, be frugal and reduce spending.  All well and good but not so easy to do when you’re already stretching a budget and the kids are being bombarded with advertising for the latest games machine!

We have a different solution. A Kleeneze business run in spare time around a job and family commitments can easily bring in an extra £3000 per year, even without team building.  That would cover Christmas, AND leave over £2000 for a good holiday or other luxuries!  Why not read our Kleeneze home business information pack and see if this business could help you to have the bext Christmas ever!

Kleeneze - a step up the property ladder

November 1st, 2007

It’s no news that house prices in the UK have risen dramatically in recent years.  Although recent news stories report a slow down, and even a risk of a fall in the house market, there are more and more struggling first time buyers.  According to the BBC, the average house price in the UK is now well over £200,00 (£210,578), an increase of 9.25% in the last year.  The most expensive areas of the country, such as Windsor and Maidenhead are almost double that at nearly £400,000 for an average priced house.

Since wages have not risen at anywhere near these levels, it has become harder and harder for first time buyers to get on the property ladder.  Coupled with the current fear over the pension crises, and general job insecurity, the idea of a second income, or self employment is becoming more and more attractive,

Can a Kleeneze income really make a big difference?

How much does the average household have to spend?  The average household income in the UK is £648 per week.  A typical expenditure weighs in at £485.50 covers rent, council tax, household bills, car running costs, clothing, food etc. leaving £162.50 for ‘lifestyle’ (holidays, Christmas, birthday presents, evenings out etc.)  As this is an average including London and the Southeast you can appreciate that in many areas this figure would be considerably lower.  Even with this figure, a part time Kleeneze income of just £600 would double the amount of money a family could spend on lifestyle.

Kleeneze incomes are not all about big bucks, fast cars and luxury holidays.  Of course these things are all available but not everyone wants to run a Kleeneze business full time, or build a long term business.  The lower incomes however, £400, £600, even £1000 per month are available on a part time basis around a full time job or business.  Would an extra £600 per month make it a little easier for the average couple looking for a starter home? - I think so!

When you’re talking to prospects it’s easy to get over excited and tell them all of the massive success stories from yourself, your team and other’s in the business.  Don’t forget though that the smaller incomes are what will attract most people to the business.  Once people have had some success they may choose to upgrade their aspirations and aim of bigger things but most people joining a Network Marketing business join for an extra £50 - £100 per week.  We can show them how to do that in their first month so beware of putting them off with the bigger numbers… Kleeneze can deliver a millionaire lifestyle, but the change in lifestyle from a little extra cash in the early months can be just as rewarding, especially if it allows people to purcahse their own home and start to realise their dreams.

How to find serious prospects for your Network Marketing business

October 23rd, 2007

I often get asked how to find serious people  to build a Network Marketing business, rather than part time ‘players’ who merely toy with the business.  The answer is quite simple, but overlooked by most Networkers.  In the words of Alan Pease, “The questions are the answers!”

We are not in the convincing business, we are in the interviewing business.   If you were selecting candidates for a job you would interview then at length before deciding if they were right for you and your business.  Just because you are interviewing for a business opportunity doesn’t mean you should skimp on this step.  Whenever you sponsor a new distributor into your business it costs you time and energy.  Since, like everyone else, you only have 24 hours each day you need to make sure you are spending your time with the right people.

Questions are the answers

So what types of question should you be asking?  Quite simply, you are looking for prospects with big goals, committment, and a willingness to learn and follow you system and coaching.  With that in mind here are some sample questions you might like to try:

  • Have you been self employed, or run your own business before?
  • What previous experience do you have that you feel would be beneficial to your Kleeneze business?
  • What level of income are you looking to achieve from your Networking business?
  • How much time do you have to commit to a new business venture?

These questions are not meant as a script, but an idea of the type of questions you should be asking.  Listen to your prospects answers and verify that they stack up.  If they tell you their goal is a £50,000 pa income within 6 months, yet they only have 2 hours a week to commit you know there is a problem!  Similarly, if you don’t feel their level of belief challenge them - “Well you are certainly giving me the right answers, but I don’t hear the commitment in your voice.  What is holding you back?”

As I said before, we are not in a persuading business.  Too many people interview prospects by hyping up the business, and trying to persuade them to join.  That is not what you want.  Persuading the wrong people to join your downline will build a business, but it will be a long slow slog with lots of headaches along the way.  Much better to find the right people, people who see the big picture, who have the commitment and determination to succeed, and spend your time coaching them.

Find out what drives your prospects, what their hot buttons are.  If their WHY is big enough then no hurdles will be to high for them to overcome.  If they don’t have the desire then maybe you should be spending the majority of your valuable time working with other people!

5 year plan

October 18th, 2007

The Olympic games come to London in 2012.  For the next 5 years top athletes from around the world have one goal in mind - their sights are firmly set on an Olympic medal.  What is your goal for the next 5 years?  Are you going for gold, or just ’seeing how it goes’?

It’s a simple fact that most people do not have clearly defined long term goals for their business, and that this is a major stumbling block.  A business with no goal is like an Olympic archer with no target to aim for.

Kriss Akabusi won three Summer Olympic medals, three World Championship medals, broke the British record for sprinting, and received an MBE.  Did he do that by chance?  Of course not, he had clearly defined goals,  a very specific plan and with the help of his coach he kept on focus.

To have similar success in your business spend the time to clearly define your goals - long and short term.  Work out a clear plan of action to achieve them and sit done with your sponsor, or mentor and allow them to help you stay focused.  You’ll be amazed how much easier those early mornings or late nights are when you have a strong WHY - a strong enough goal to strive towards.   Whether you have a Kleeneze business, or another vehicle to achieve your financial aspirations, clearly defined goals are an essential tool to get the most out of your business and yourself!

The 4 Hour Work Week

October 17th, 2007

From the very start of my Kleeneze career I have had one primary focus: to build a team which brings me a residual monthly income allowing early retirement.  Sure you can join Kleeneze and earn a few hundred pounds in your first month but the real draw, and the real power of this business opportunity for many people is in building financial independence and the ability to step away from the business and continue to earn.

My thoughts on this matter are rapidly changing however since earlier this week I bought a copy of The 4-Hour Work Week by Timithy Ferriss.  The book takes the concept of building a residual income to a whole new level.  Timothy teaches his philosophy of Delegation, Elimination, Automation and Liberation - building an autonomous business and freeing up as much time of lifestyle as possible.  He talks about ‘mini retirements’ at least a couple of times a year, rather than the ‘deferred life plan’ of waiting for retirement proper (whether early, or after 45 years!) and although the book is not specifically aimed at our industry it struck me that a Kleeneze business is a perfect vehicle for this type of plan.

How long does it take to eliminate yourself from the day to day running of your business, and enjoy a residual income while lying on a beach, trekking in the Himalayas or just spending time with the family?  Bronze Executive level will bring in £1500+ per month whether you choose to work or not and has been reaching within 12 weeks of starting, SED level perhaps £3000+ month (and the rest!) and can be achieved in 18 months.  £3000 is certainly enough to pay most people’s mortgage and bills while supporting them while they travel the world.  How does 18 months of hard work sound for the ability to have total freedom of money, time and location for the rest of your life?  Sure you may want to spend a few months of the year back at home strengthening the business, increasing that income stream, or even use voicemail and email to support your business while away.  The key however is that this type of lifestyle is available to anyone who really wants it.

I very rarely recommend a book if I’ve not read it cover to cover but this is an exception.  I only bought the book 24 hours ago and so I’m only half way through but already what I have learned has changed my life - and that’s no exaggeration!  I’m changing my goals, changing my work habits, looking towards the future with a renewed sense of excitement.  Whether you’re a Kleeneze agent, looking at the business, or looking at another form of income I urge you to read this, apply the principles and see if it can’t change your life for the better.

Ten tips to get off to a flying start with your Kleeneze business

September 20th, 2007

Here are some great tips, straight from the horses mouth, to get new distributors up and running fast.  When new distributors join Kleeneze, these are some of the fundamental steps to ensure their success:

  1. Watch the Kleeneze Retailing The Basics DVD. Make a realistic retail plan with your Upline. Aim to qualify for the new starter incentives and commit to it.
  2. Put your catalogues out immediately + Collect them within 2 days. (Clearly label your catalogues) Ask your Upline to advise you about “Your Wetbook & how to help minimize catalogue losses
  3. Set up your catalogues the same way each time. You can then tell when they have been looked at by the customer
  4. Find out what income is available, understand the earnings plan and how you can earn what you need to hit the earnings level you set when you joined
  5. Make a list of everyone you know and send them an information pack – Your upline will advise you how to do this. Give them a call the next day and ask if they know if anyone would be interested.
  6. Advertise for people to join your team - Put recruitment flyers in your catalogues; put opportunity flyers through letterboxes; put business cards on cars / shop counters; put an ˜Income Opportunity advert in your local paper
  7. Stay in regular contact with your Sponsor for guidance and support
  8. Join the MLM Voice mail messaging system to help you manage your business Click to MLM
  9. Checkout when the next Team Sizzle or Opportunity Meeting is due to be held and arrange to be there, ask your sponsor. Also know when the next company conference is at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham You are entitled to a FREE ticket.
  10. Never keep a question you don’t know the answer to, to yourself. Always ask!

Kleeneze Christmas Conference

September 13th, 2007

This year’s conference took on a James Bond theme as Patrick Jolly gave us our 007 mission… to empty the Kleeneze warehouse and share in a 14 million pound payout over the next 3 months!

The conference was a great success and some great new incentives and initiatives were announced:

  • All new starters hitting 13% within their first 3 months get a free retail kit.
  • Fast track UK Super 200 kits delivered within 24 hours.
  • Service centre has 18 new staff and now open until 9pm Monday to Friday, and 9am to 1pm Saturday.
  • New Greeneze specialogue packed with eco-friendly products, including Fair Trade and biodegradable products.
  • Fantastic new Cabouchon catalogue which now inclides items for men as well as women.

Of course there were some fantastic trainings and testimonials as you would expect from a Kleeneze conference, as well as an awesome recognition parade.  So there you have it - your Kleeneze mission, if you choose to accept it, is to build a fantastic business!
